As I look into your sweet face
breath rising and falling softly at my breast
I imagine
no I dream
I dreamed a dream so sweet
it surely was made of pure sugar
I dreamed a dream so intimate
it seemed to be made of fragility
I saw a sweet little face
the face of her
of her in baby form
her cheeks
her lips
those legs for days
only miniature
I saw me telling a little baby her
that her mom was so special to me
that we loved each other and out of that love
we made her
and she is the hopes and dreams
of two women who dared to believe
they could have exactly what they wanted
and be exactly who God made them to be
That we could be a family
I saw those eyelashes
long and curled
the sweetest sigh as she nuzzled into my chest
I looked up and saw her darling mom
my brilliant and beautiful wife
who I'd loved for what seemed a lifetime
who gave me the gift of you
the gift of us
the gift of love
taking in the scene
"She's out" I whisper as she walks across the room
yellow and white
glides really
because I still think she walks on air
and places a kiss on my forehead
"I missed you. Come back to bed"
And with another snuggle and a few I love you for our littlest love
My audacious, all consuming love
Takes my hand
and remind me
Blessed
She's my good thing
I wake to find big brown eyes staring at me
they aren't the eyes of her
no they're the eyes of a friend's baby
beautiful and bright
Real tears slide down my face
accompanied by a fervent prayer
"Lord, let my dreams because my reality."
